BIRGUNJ: Agitating health workers of Nepal Medical College here in Birgunj clashed with supporters of the management committee of the college today.

A policeman and eight health workers were injured in the melee. The tension mounted when some unidentified persons pelted stones at the health workers as the latter were entering the college premises to submit their memorandum to the administration.

Federation of Trade Union, Federation of All Nepal Trade Union and Nepal Trade Union Congress Independent were preparing to submit memorandum to the college management separately.

The group of more than 200 persons also chased away the health workers. Taking advantage of the situation, the people close to the college management reportedly attacked the health workers.

Health staffers Sanjiv Yadav, Jakiur Rahaman, Shivmalati Chaudhari, Surendra Kushawaha, Pushpa Thapa, Shova Shrestha, Laxmi Poudel and Amaruddin Dewan are those injured in the incident.

They are on agitation for over one month after the management dismissed three staffers without plausible reason.
