CM Rai warns of strict action against erring employees

Biratnagar, July 22

After an engineer working under the provincial government was caught red-handed with bribe money, Province 1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai today called an emergency meeting and directed civil servants to work with honesty and sincerity.

A team deployed from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had nabbed senior division engineer Mohanbabu Yadav of Water Resource and Irrigation Development Division, Bhojpur, with Rs 180,000 on July 15.

In the wake of the incident, CM Rai called an emergency meeting and warned civil servants of action if they were involved in bribery or irregularities.

“The division chief has been caught red-handed with bribe money. What will be the image of the provincial government if this continues? I do not want such incidents to repeat,” Rai told employees at the meeting.

“Everyone has to work with sincerity and honesty to win people’s trust and to maintain clean image of the provincial government,” Rai added.

Rai said he had received a lot of complaints against government employees of various offices under the province.

Rai also told the employees to provide information about higher authorities who demand commission and compel them to take bribe from service seekers. He further asked them to call him directly on his personal mobile number or send emails if they had any information about bribery or other irregularities.

Following news of commission and bribe in the media, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development Manoj Ghimire  and Province Transport Management Office Chief Bhim Gautam were transferred last evening.
