KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 1

Bhim Acharya, the Chief Minister of Province 1, has tendered his resignation.

After announcing his decision to step down at the provincial assembly gathering held this afternoon, CM Acharya presented his resignation to provincial head Som Nath Adhikari.

He was all set to take the vote of confidence on October 24. However, the provincial assembly meeting was postponed for a week.

He was supposed to proceed with the motion but he quit before the PA could vote on the motion.

CM Acharya, who was appointed to the post on August 26, had lost majority in the assembly within weeks, soon after the splinter group from the CPN-UML -- the CPN Unified Socialist -- had gained recognition as a separate party from the Election Commission.
