Province 1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai today indicated that the province might be named Kirant. He said naming the province as Kirant should not come as a surprise to anyone.

Speaking at a programme organised at Sakela Park in Dharan, CM Rai indicated that the province might be named Kirant province as proposal put forward by Kirant Rai Yayokha was supported by historical facts.

Stating that demands put forth by other communities too were not without grounds, Rai said that name and permanent headquarters of the province, however, would be finalised on the basis of consensus.

Noting that he was holding formal and informal meetings and discussion, CM Rai held that the name and headquarters would be fixed based on the basis of historical facts and people’s sentiment.

He stated that constitution had put an end to all kinds of discrimination and guaranteed rights to all ethnic communities and linguistic groups.
