Province 3 Chief Minister Dormani Poudel has stressed the need to empower local levels.

Speaking at a programme here today, Poudel dwelt on the advantage that the local level enjoyed while dealing with the people and said, “As the local level can better work and deal with the public, we must move ahead by empowering the local bodies.”“As for now, plans announced for the local levels have not been implemented as the centre has been reluctant to empower the local levels with all rights granted by the government. Once, the local levels are given their constitutional powers, all those plans will be implemented,” he said.

Further, urging the rulers to get rid of the centralist mentality, Poudel said prosperity of a country was closely linked to the effective implementation of development plans and programmes.

“And as such plans can be effectively implemented only when eh local levels are empowered,  we must do the needful to provide enough rights to the provinces and local levels,” he argued.

Minister of Financial Affairs and Planning Kailash Dhungel, Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Dawa Dorje Lama and Minister of Social Development Yuvraj Dulal also spoke on the occasion.
