Province 5 and Sichuan Province of China have now become sister provinces.

A memorandum of understanding in this regard was signed by Province 5 Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel and Sichuan Province Governor Yin Li today. In the MoU, Li and Pokharel have vowed to increase exchanges of high-level visits between the two provinces in the coming days and help each other in their march towards prosperity.

After signing the memorandum, Pokharel hoped that understanding between these provinces would take the relations between the two countries to a new height. Governor Li also expressed confidence that the new understanding would be vital.

According to CM Pokharel’s press adviser Sher Bahadur KC, the CM extended an invitation to his Chinese counterpart to visit Lumbini.

While the CM said construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport was nearing completion and asked Li for help to start a direct air link between Chhendu and Bhairahawa, he also called on Chinese investors to invest in the province.

The chief minister also met Chinese Communist Party international department deputy director. In the meeting, the deputy director appreciated Nepal’s One-China Policy it has pursued for years now, conveyed his country’s respect for Nepal’s sovereignty and integrity.

On his part, CM Pokharel said linking Lumbini by Chinese rail would be a huge fillip to the development efforts of Nepal, and said such a link would make it easier for Chinese visitors to reach Lumbini.
