Provincial and Parliamentary elections not possible in single phase: Minister Dahit

KATHMANDU: The Minister for Land Reform and Management Gopal Dahit has said that the provincial and parliamentary elections are not possible in single phase.

Speaking at an interaction programme in the Capital today, Minister Dahit said that holding two different elections together is unpractical and cannot be held in single phase.

Minister Dahit announcement came after Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had directed the Election Commission officer bearers to prepare for holding Provincial and Parliamentary elections simultaneously.

Dahit further said that the Ministry would introduce four bills to bring reforms in the land management.

He also said the the Ministry would table the bill on land, guthi, and survey in the parliament via the Council of Ministers. "Once these bills are endorsed by the parliament, irregularities facing the land management and administration will fizzle out," Dahit shared.

Similarly, he also said that the Ministry was planning to launch online system to inform the public about the activities carried out in the land sector.

Meanwhile, the government is preparing to distribute identify cards to freed kamlaris from next week, informed Dahit.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had inducted Goal Dahit as Minister for Land Reform and Management from Nepal Democratic Forum in his Cabinet.

As per the constitution, all the elections should be conducted before January 21.
