PA disrupted over reluctance to discuss HQ issue
Hetauda, May 13
The budget session of Province 3 Provincial Assembly that began from today had to be halted and deferred until tomorrow shortly after the opposition party disrupted proceedings in the PA vowing not to allow the PA meeting until the issue of fixing the permanent provincial headquarters was tabled for discussion.
Today, as soon as political parties had extended their best wishes for the success of the new session with the Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Dawa Dorje Lama preparing to present a bill at the behest of Speaker Sanu Kumar Shrestha, Nepali Congress leaders rose from their seats and disrupted the assembly.
As opposition PA members refused to give in even after the speaker’s request, the latter announced that the next meeting of the assembly would be held at 4:00pm tomorrow.
Opposition party leader Indra Baniya said the opposition was compelled to disrupt the assembly.
“Enough is enough. How long can we put off a matter like this?” asked the Congress leader, who was of the opinion that fixing the provincial headquarters was an expedient, at least to save the face of the Provincial Assembly.
“The PA can run only when the ruling party comes with a proposal related to the provincial headquarters; otherwise, disruption will continue,” he said.
Earlier, a meeting of the Work Management had decided to take the issue of headquarters for discussion in the Provincial Assembly on May 24.
