KATHMANDU, MAY 19

At least 38 climbers from 8K Expeditions successfully scaled the world's highest peak after they found a fair weather window on Mt Everest this morning, expedition organizers said.

According to Lakpa Sherpa, Expedition Director at 8K Expedition, 17 clients and 21 climbing guides stood atop the Everest summit.

"Among the climber, Nepali photojournalist Purnima Shrestha and Ukrainian climber Valentyn Sypavin made their second summit on Everest in a week," Sherpa said, adding that Shrestha had scaled Everest on May 12 while the Ukrainian guide and decorated World Cup ice climber reached the summit point with Sanu Sherpa on May 11.

According to Pemba Sherpa, Director at 8K Expeditions, the duo wants to climb Mt Everest thrice this season. "Purnima and Valentyn will begin their third summit push later this week," he added.

Indian female climber Jyoti Ratre from Madhya Pradesh has become the oldest Indian woman to scale the world's highest peak. "She scaled the peak at the age of 55 years this morning. "She broke the record of Sangeeta Bahl who scaled Everest at 53 in 2018.

Other climbers who scaled Everest from 8K include Leo Ru Ping Chong, Henrik Lars Oliver Grethe, Nikolai Radutnyi, Alexandre Ben Brahim, Chen Xue, Shamin Umesh Asaika, Alevtyna Kovalchuk, Volodymyr Petrov, Udaya Kerung, Chhiring Sherpa, Bam Bahadur BK, Wong Su Chung, Elmehdi Amezzane, Abdul Samad Jamder, Dawa Ongju Sherpa, Lakpa Nurbu Sherpa, Ming Temba Sherpa, Dawa Geljen Sherpa, Pasrenji Sherpa, Guru Jenjen, Pasang Sherpa, Pasdawa Sherpa, Lakpa Ongjuk Sherpa, Karma Gyaljen Sherpa, Guru Bhote, Mingma Dorchee Sherpa, Pasang Sherpa, Sange Sherpa, Ming Dawa Sherpa, Lakpa Gelu Sherpa, Dawa Tenzi Sherpa, Ang Pasang Sherpa, Arjun Karki, Ming Nurbu Sherpa and Pasang Tenjing Sherpa.
