Quake-hit schools in Gorkha rebuilt

GORKHA: More than four years after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook Nepal, reconstruction of 287 earthquake-affected schools in Gorkha has been completed.

Baburam Devkota, an engineer at District Project Implementation Unit (Education) under the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), shared that rebuilding of schools were gaining momentum in Gorkha. "The deadly earthquake had affected a total of 419 schools in the district," he said.

He further informed that toilet construction was completed in 70 schools under the programme in the last fiscal year.

So far, out of 287 schools recently reconstructed, 120 schools still lack classrooms and rebuilding efforts to add additional classrooms are under process with an aim to complete it by the end of this year.

A total of 65 earthquake-devasted schools would be reconstructed through the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) in the current fiscal year, he concluded.
