Biratnagar, March 26:
The District Housing and Urban Development Office (DHUDO), Biratnagar, said it would ensure effective implementation of the Nepal National Building Code-060 for making new buildings in Morang and Sunsari earthquake-resistant. Division chief Shyam DC said, in the first phase, the code will be implemented for government buildings. Though the government adopted the code on August 3, 2003, it is yet to be implemented. DC, however, said three government buildings under construction would adhere to the code. He said the DHUDO has asked the Biratnagar sub-metropolitan city and three municipalities of Sunsari to implement the code.
“We have already asked the Purvanchal University among other organisations to follow the code.” The DHUDO has urged the municipalities concerned to award construction permission to those whose maps are as per the code.
