Suman Kulung Rai won the title of the fourth Panchpokhari Winter Trail Half Marathon in Sindhupalchowk on Saturday.

The athlete from Solukhumbu, Rai completed the distance in one hour, 55 minutes and 52 seconds. Tribhuvan Army Club athlete Gopal Tamang came second in 2:00:29 and his teammate Srikas Rai was third in 2:01:40.

Arjun Kulung and Tirtha Tamang finished in top five. In women's section, Rasila Tamang from Dhading finished first in 2:44:43, while Nitu Tamang of Sindhupalchowk was second in 2:46:25. Pyuthan trio Sangita Budha Magar, Ashma Bishwokarma and Nirmala Rai came third, fourth and fifth respectively. Top three athletes in both the sections earned Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

Sancha Tamang and Nitu Tamang were the best among the local participants, while Bhim Bahadur Gurung and Radha Shrestha won the veteran section titles. Legendary marathon runner Baikuntha Manandhar also ran the race to motivate the participants. The race began at the Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality at the altitude of 4,200 metres
