BARA, JUNE 6

Rainfall has destroyed papaya plants worth more than a million rupees in Bara. Rainfall has destroyed papayas cultivated in more than one bigha land by Sancharam Thing and his nephew in Jitpursimara sub-metropolis.

Thing said incessant rain for the past one week had damaged the papaya plants. "As soon as the rain stopped, papaya plants started dying," said Thing. According to him, more than 80 per cent papaya plants died due to rainwater.

Thing and his nephew had taken loan from a cooperative and purchased 2,003 papaya saplings from India at a cost of Rs 160 per sapling. "We lost around one million rupees as the papaya plants died," added Thing.
