The minimum temperature is likely to decrease by three to four degrees Celsius by Saturday

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 1

The newly formed westerly disturbances that will enter Nepal from north-western part of the country tomorrow evening are predicted to bring light to moderate rainfall across the country and snowfall in the higher reaches for the next few days, said the Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology in its special bulletin today.

The country has not seen clear blue skies in the past two weeks, as westerly disturbances have been carrying moisture-filled cold air from the Arabian Sea into the country.

Lack of enough sunshine in Kathmandu valley for the last two weeks has been particularly harsh on children and elderly.

Fresh westerly wind that will enter the country will further decrease the temperature, bringing more hardship to the general public.

The Weather Forecasting Division said the effect of westerly disturbances was already visible in parts of the country - mist in hilly areas, while parts of the Tarai are shrouded in dense fog.

Due to westerly winds, there is a likelihood of light to moderate rainfall and snowfall from Wednesday. There will be some respite from cold from Sunday.

In the past 24 hours, the valley has recorded a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 17 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature is likely to decrease by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius by Saturday, whereas maximum temperature can witness even steeper fall, as per meteorologists.

According to the forecast, Province 1, Bagmati, and Gandaki will have partly to generally cloudy conditions till tomorrow noon, whereas remaining parts of the country will be partially cloudy.

Light rainfall is likely at a few places in Province 1, Bagmati, Gandaki, Madhes, and Lumbini.
