Rain-triggered landslide obstructs Siddhartha Highway
BUTWAL: Butwal-Palpa road section of the Siddhartha Highway has been blocked due to mudslide triggered by incessant rain in the border area of Rupandehi and Palpa districts last night.
Vehicular movement towards various destinations — Palpa, Syangja, Pokhara, Gulmi and Arghakhanchi districts and northern Butwal — have been disrupted due to the obstruction on the highway as the landslide occurred near Siddhababa Temple depositing debris on the road at Bhalebas in Madanpokhara, according to the West Region Traffic Police Office, Butwal.
Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Raghuveer Mahaseth, who is in his hometown for a few days, has carried out an on-site inspection of the road section which has been frequently blocked due to landslides. He instructed the bodies concerned to solve the problem at the earliest.
This is the third time landslide has occurred on the highway obstructing vehicular movement this year, in one of which incidents, a person had been buried.
