Rainfall to continue till tomorrow

Kathmandu, July 24

With the monsoon in full swing, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the country for at least two more days, according to the division.

There is possibility of heavy rainfall during the nights.

“There will be rainfall in a few parts of the western, central and eastern regions, leading to rise in water level in rivers and risk of landslides in hills. Monsoon will be more active in the western region on Friday,” said Manju Basi, a meteorologist.

Axis of monsoon trough is near Tarai areas because of which monsoon is likely to be active for a few days. “As there is high risk of landslides, we appeal to those travelling in hills or living in landslide-prone areas to stay on high alert,” she added.

The flood forecasting section of the Meteorological Forecasting Division has stated that there are chances for flash floods in provinces 1 and 2 and have warned people living near rivers to remain on high alert. It added that there were chances of flash floods in rivers flowing through Chure and Tarai regions.

At least 90 people lost their lives and thousands were affected by rain-induced disasters after a heavy rainfall on July 12.
