Rainwater destroys road link to Manthali

Ramechhap, August 31

Vehicular movement from Umakunda Rural Municipality to Ramechhap district headquarters, Manthali was disrupted after rainwater destroyed the road.

The rural municipality has remained disconnected from Manthali for the last two months.

Chairman Sher Bahadur Sunuwar of Umakunda Rural Municipality said rainwater had caused more damage to the road this year.

He added that with the initiative of the then District Development Committee, roads in the district were repaired every year. Sunuwar said the locals had been facing problems after rainwater destroyed several roads in  the district in June-July.

Floods triggered by rainfall also damaged Gumdel-Priti road of the rural municipality forcing people to walk long distance to reach their destination.

Transport service from Kathmandu to the rural municipality via Manthali has also been affected.

Reconstruction work in the  local levels have been affected due to difficulty in supplying construction materials. “My plan was to make the rural municipality the best among eight rural municipalities in the district. “But rainwater ruined my plans,” Chairman Sunuwar lamented.
