Rajbiraj Airport runway finally constructed

Rajbiraj, April 15

Construction of the Rajbiraj Airport runway in Saptari has finally been completed.

The construction had started in 1959 and was inaugurated by then transport minister Ganesh Man Singh. Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Project Coordinator Ramekwal Mahato said the runway is 1,500-metre long and 30-metre wide. It has 90-metre long, 60-metre wide apron and 110-metre long and 20-metre wide taxi way.

“Repairs of the tower will be completed within a week. The airport would be ready to conduct flights from the first week of May. Construction of the runway was delayed due to shortage of diesel and technical problems. Kanchharam, Raman and Dev and Shayar JV Company constructed the runway. Last year’s floods and border blockade also have been blamed for the delay in construction of the runway. The construction resumed in November 2016.
