Ramechhap facing drug crunch

Ramechhap, January 8

Health posts in Ramechhap have run out of many medicines that patients are entitled to get for free, thanks to the failure of drug manufacturing companies to supply the drugs.

Dozens of health centres and health posts in the district have run out of even simple over-the-counter drugs such as cetamol.

Chief of Puranagaun Health Post Raj Kumar Aran said they have been out of stock of eye medicine and drug for gastritis for the past one-and-a-half months, forcing them to turn away many patients.

Aran said he had brought drugs from health posts at Chisapani and Pinkhuri VDCs. “But even those drugs have run out. I had even searched the godown of the District Health Office, but it is empty,” he said.

The District Health Office has informed higher authorities about the problem.
