Rana files writ petition at SC against EC

KATHMANDU: Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic) Pashupati Shamsher Rana filed a writ petition at Supreme Court (SC) against the Election Commission's notice on verification of signatures of RPP D's members.

In the writ filed Friday, Chairman Rana has demanded that the court issued an order to the EC to give the validity to the previously submitted signatures of the central members and lawmakers of new faction led by him.

The petitioner has claimed that the EC's decision of calling them to verify the signatures in the Commission was not essential.

Rana-led team had submitted 69 central members' signatures while seeking registration of the new party in the EC on August 6. But, the EC called them for the verification of the signatures by giving August 20 deadline.

In less than nine months of the unification of the RPP, leader Rana split it by taking favour of the leaders disgruntled with RPP Chairman Kamal Thapa.
