Rana-led RPP rules out merger
Kathmandu, August 19:
A Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader today ruled out any possibility of merger of two factions of RPP, which spilt on the issue of supporting the king’s direct rule.
RPP’s view on unification came a day after former minister and chairman of the dissident faction of split RPP, Kamal Thapa, showed interest in unifying the two factions “sensing the need to keep pace with the changing times”.
Parashuram Khapung, the spokesperson for RPP, led by Pashupati Shamsher Rana, said the party would never extend hand of friendship to RPP led by Kamal Thapa.
“There is no possibility of merger of the two parties. We are not against one leader or another. We are against the tendency of supporting undemocratic moves of the king for attaining power,” he said, while talking to the mediapersons today.
He, however, said the party had felt the need to consult leaders like Rajeshwor Devkota and Surya Bahadur Thapa but nothing had been done in that regard.
Yesterday, Kamal Thapa had said that his faction of the RPP was willing to do its bit for the unification of RPP to keep pace with the changing times.
