Police arrested rape accused Krishnadas Giri, popularly known as Siddhababa of Sunsari’s Chatara, from the ICU of Birat Nursing Home, Biratnagar, this morning.

Police produced Siddhababa before Sunsari District Court, which remanded him to four-days in custody for investigation. He was taken to the district court in an ambulance from the nursing home. He was produced before the court in the attire of the godman on a wheelchair.

Sunsari Deputy Superintendent of Police Binod Sharma said a single bench of district judge Dharmaraj Poudel had remanded Siddhababa to four-days in custody. Siddhababa was then admitted to the nursing home for treatment. He is being treated under police surveillance at the hospital.

The rape case registered against Siddhababa states that he had called his female follower to his ashram and raped her on October 21. The case was filed against him with Sunsari Police last Thursday.

The court had issued an arrest warrant against him the next day.

Siddhababa, however, had been admitted to the nursing home on Thursday. A team of Sunsari Police that reached the nursing home to arrest Siddhababa, had returned empty-handed after he was admitted to the ICU yesterday.

After he started meeting his followers from today morning, police had arrested Siddhababa from the ICU. The hospital maintains that Siddhababa has developed chest and heart complications.
