BANKE, DECEMBER 15
Banke has witnessed a rise in the number of rape cases in the past few months.
A woman was raped a few months ago at Dudawa of Banke. The incident was reported to the police four days later. The person involved in the rape managed to escape. After a few days, another woman was raped.
Two women became victims of rape at Kohalpur.
Five rape cases were reported in the second month of the current fiscal in the district. Attempts were made to rape four women a month ago, police said.
Rape cases continue to soar in the district. However, very few rape incidents are reported to the police. As many as 21 rape cases were registered with the police office since March when the lockdown was imposed to curb the spread of COV- ID-19. Police said that people generally try to hush up rape cases resulting in very few cases being reported.
Of late, however, rape cases have started reaching the police office as people involved in settling the incidents through reconciliation also have to face the music.
Sub-inspector Rama Rana at Banke District Police Office said that more rape cases were being reported to police as women and girls had become aware about legal fight against the crime.
