Rape cases on the rise
HETAUDA: Cases of teenage girls being raped are rife in Makawanpur district. A recent report also made public an astounding revealation saying that the girls are either raped by kin or neighbours. And the victims are often said to be between 12 and 17 years of age. Police have detained two males in Bhimphedi and one in Birgunj for investigation into the charge, according to Ratna Shrestha, chief of Woman Police Cell. Shrestha said rape-accused minor Sudip Dhakal of Gadhi VDC-9 had been kept at Sibin Helpline Hetauda for further investigation. Investigation shows that most girls were raped while they were alone at home or had gone to the forest.Latest statistics unveiled by the Regional Police Office showed that at least 30 rape cases took place in 16 districts of the region in the fiscal year 2005-06. The number swelled up to 88 last fiscal, of which18 have occurred in the first three months.
