Rape, divorce top cases in Dolakha

Data shows that cases related to rape and divorce have been on the rise at the District Court, Dolakha, this fiscal. According to sources, of the total 69 divorce cases registered at the court, 53 have been settled and, of the total 20 rape cases, eight have been settled, this fiscal.
District judge Rajendra Nepal said many women have complained that they had been victims of domestic violence at the hands of their husbands. Some women, whose husbands are abroad for employment, have filed for divorce, citing polygamy and extra-marital affairs on the part of their husbands and their failure to send money home to cover household expenses, among other reasons, said the district judge.
Of all cases related to divorce at the court this fiscal, there is only one case in which the husband has sought divorce from his wife.
According to court sources, of the total 494 cases, 196 of which were carried over from the last fiscal, 233 have been settled this fiscal.
