RJP-N leader on hunger strike for fair and timely ticket distribution
Rajbiraj, October 29
Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal regional president Laxman Yadav today started hunger strike in Rajbiraj, Saptari.
He started the hunger strike demanding fair and timely distribution of tickets for the second phase of parliamentary and provincial elections slated for December 7.
President of Saptari Constituency 2 Yadav said he had no other option except fast-unto-death as nepotism and favouritism was rampant in the party. “I started hunger strike as the leadership started distributing tickets to the nearest and dearest ones keeping deserving candidates out of contention,” Yadav added.
Active in politics since the early 90s from then Sadbhawana Party, Yadav was an aspirant for the post of mayor in Rajbiraj Municipality.
The party leadership had, however, given the ticket to Shambhu Yadav and had assured him that he would get ticket for provincial elections.
Yadav said he was compelled to stage hunger strike after the party leadership failed to keep its promise.
He wants the party to give tickets to those who played significant role in the Tarai agitation.
The RJP-N is having a hard time picking candidates due to a large number of aspirants for tickets. RJP-N Saptari coordinator Suni Kumar Jha said they would nominate honest and dedicated leaders for provincial and parliamentary polls.
