Rautahat authority lifts curfew for 4 hours

RAUTAHAT: The Rautahat District Administration Office lifted an indefinite curfew imposed in the district headquarters Gaur, to be effective from 6 pm to 10 pm on Monday.

Chief District Officer Narahari Baral said the District Administration Office would decide on whether to continue the curfew after analysing the situation tomorrow.

The DAO had clamped an indefinite curfew since 4 pm on Sunday to avoid any untoward incident after a protester was killed in a police firing during the United Democratic Madhesi Front protest.

The prohibition was lifted for four and half hours on Monday morning. It, however, had resumed since 10:30 am today till a further notice.

Even during the curfew hours, the UDMF cadres had staged sporadic demonstrations defying the order.

Meanwhile, the UDMF District Committee demanded that the victim of Sunday police firing, Shekh Tabrejj, a tenth grader at the local Juddha Higher Secondary School, be declared a martyr and an independent probe committee investigate into the case.

It warned that the body of the family would not receive the body unless the demands were met. CDO Baral, however, said the authorities had contacted his family and procedures were underway to handover the body and to provide family a due compensation.
