RAUTAHAT: The Rautahat District Court on Tuesday remanded a man and his mother to judicial custody for their alleged involvement in physically assaulting her pregnant wife resulting into the miscarriage.

A single bench of the District Judge Bashudev Adhikari ordered yesterday that Jitendra Gosai (25) and his 45-year-old mother Raj Kumari of Katahariya-8 be sent to the custody.

They were arrested for beating the youth's wife Rekha Devi (20), who was in the sixth month of her pregnancy, which led to expulsion of her foetus.

The woman had fallen unconscious in the attack over a minor domestic dispute and was rushed to the Katahariya-based Primary Health Centre.

According to locals, the foetus was miscarried after she had excessive bleeding after the attack.

After the victim's father, Anchit Gosain, lodged a complaint on November 20, police had arrested the duo and prosecuted them for the incident.
