RAUTAHAT, JULY 15
A woman in Dewahi Gonahi Municipality, Rautahat, who was sexually abused a few days ago has called for justice and action against the perpetrator.
According to the victim, a man of her own village raped her while she was returning home from Garuda. "Last Wednesday I was returning home after talking to a construction material dealer to build my home when Nageshwor Kushwaha of our own village offered to give me a lift home on his motorbike.
I went with him, but when we reached Jhanjh khola, he took me to the nearby bamboo grove and raped me saying he would otherwise kill me," said the victim, a Dalit woman of 27 from Uchihid Village of Dewahi Gonahi Municipality.
After the woman reported the abuse to her family, her family had field a case against Kushwaha with Garuda Area Police Office the next day. The victim and her family have expressed concern about the delay in investigation.
On his part, Garuda Area Police Office DSP Shreeram Bhandari said they were still investigating the case. "We've twice produced him at the court and are investigating the case with the court's permission, and as the investigation has begun and we've already recorded the victim's statement, I hereby ask the victim's family to trust the police."
