RAUTAHAT: A woman has been beaten black and blue on charge of practicing witchcraft at Baluwa Tole of Rajpur Municipality-3 in Rautahat district.

Jaitoon Nesa (42) of the Municipality was thrashed by her neighbour, Mairoon Nesa and her daughters, for allegedly practicing witchcraft and making her daughters sick.

She is currently undergoing treatment at the Gaur District Hospital. She has injuries on her shoulder, back and head, according to Dr Rabindra Jha at the Hospital.

According to the victim’s husband Sheikh Raiuddin, the neighbour’s daughters were sick for the past couple of days and had visited a local shaman, Sheikh Manjarool, for treatment. “The shaman had said that Jaitoon had cast some magic spells on them and Mairoon thrashed my wife.”

We have lodged a complaint against Mairoon, said Raiuddin.

The Rautahat District Police, however, said that no complaint has been registered yet and we came to know about the same through media.

“We will take stern action against the culprit,” assured SP Yagya Binod Pokharel at the Rautahat DPO.
