Rebel cops on strike
Dang, October 23:
Policemen, who have been serving term in the Tulsipur prison since September 1 for mutiny in the Banke district-based riot control battalion, sat on a fast-unto-death from this morning.
They said they took the move after their phasewise agitation failed to move the government.
Seven suspended head constables and three constables embarked on the fast-unto-death today. According to Nimkant Dhakal, jailer of the Tulsipur prison, the strike was scheduled to begin from October 28.
The agitators have been demanding their reinstatement and annulment of the Police Act 2012.
As a part of the agitation, they have staged relay hunger strike, gone for prison lock-out and sent memorandums to the Prime Minister’s Office, Constituent Assembly Secretariat, ministries of Home, Law, Justice and Constituent Assembly Affairs, Police Headquarters, National Human Rights Commission and parties based in Dang.
