Reconstruction work slow in Dhading

Dhading, December 27

Majority of the earthquake-affected people in Dhading, who received the first instalment of the housing grant, have not even started constructing their houses yet.

The government has set the deadline of January 15 to complete the work of Damp Proof Course and receive the second instalment of the housing grant. Similarly, by the end of current fiscal, deadline for the completion of house construction will expire.

Some quake victims have been found spending the first tranche of the grant in household expenses. Especially, the poor and the needy people have failed to start house construction as they could not manage additional money.

Ram Chandra Adhikari of Baradanda in Galchhi Rural Municipality-6 said that some people had not started house construction thinking that new government would increase housing grant.

As many as 70, 582 households are in the list of beneficiaries for housing grant in Dhading district. Of them, grant agreement has been signed with 64, 724 families. Grant money of the first instalment has already been deposited in their bank accounts, said District Coordination Committee’s Social Development officer Binod Aryal said. According to Aryal, as many as 17,000 houses have been constructed in Dhading till date.
