Reconstruction works in snail pace in Makawanpur

HETAUDA: The reconstruction works in Makawanpur district are being carried out at a snail's pace even after three years have elapsed following the devastating quake in 2015.

District Coordination Committee Chief Ragunath Khulal said, there are still plenty more works to be done, at a programme organised by the Recovery and Reconstruction Coordination Forum in coordination with National Reconstruction Authority and Ministry of Urban Development, in Hetauda, on Tuesday.

He further said, "Landless quake victims have not constructed their houses; victims without land ownership certificates have more problems. We all need to think and take the issues seriously."

6,930 quake victims out of 31,817 are yet to sign on relief package. A total of 23,629 quake victims had received their first installment of the government's grant meant for reconstruction of their damaged houses.

Likewise, 1,418 quake victims had received their first installment grant from various non-government organisations in the district.

On the occasion, Hari Thalang from Recovery and Reconstruction Coordination Forum, District Information Management officer Nirmal Nepali, Technical coordinators Kaushal Bista and Rabin Pathak, Santosh Lamshal from District Project Implementation Unit under Ministry of Urban Development and Bijaya Dhakal from Nepal Red Cross were present.
