Red Panda Day observed in eastern districts

School students of various eastern districts, including Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung observed the seventh Red Panda Day by organising various activities today.

Though red pandas are one of the rare species, they are found in these eastern districts. Root Soot Club, Red Panda Network, Deep Jyoti Youth Club, Himali Conservation Program and High Altitude Herbal Producer’s Association, among others, organised various programmes on the occasion to raise awareness on the conservation of the rare species.

“Students of at least nine schools celebrated the day with the slogan ‘Let’s conserve Red Panda’ in Panchthar,” said Deep Jyoti Youth Club Executive Director Sunil Bantawa.

The country has been marking third Saturday of September as as International Red Panda day since 2011. Awareness raising rally, interactions, elocution, fine arts competition and cultural programmes, among others, were organised to mark the day.

Schools at Phalaicha, Chyangthapu, Sidin, Prangbung, Memeng and Lungrupa observed the day.
