Regional museum attracts tourists

Pokhara, October 25:

The western regional museum has become a hub for thousands of domestic and foreign tourists. The late king Birendra had inaugurated the museum on February 5, 1985. The museum has collection of accessories that reflect cultural, ethnic and collective diversity of the western region.

On an average day, about 400 visitors turn up here.

According to data made available by the museum, 31,265 domestic and foreign tourists visited the museum in the fiscal year 2053/054 BS and the number continued to rise till 2058 BS. The number of visitors continued to dwindle thereafter, owing to worsening security situation in the country. The number of visitors to the museum reached 18,208 in 2063/064 BS.

The museum remains open from 10am till 5pm during summer and from 10:00am till 3:30pm during winter. It remains shut on Tuesday, an employee at the museum, Govinda Prasad Khanal, said.
