KANCHANPUR: The Regional Town Development Project has come into operation in Kanchanpur and Kailali districts.

Funded by the Asian Development Bank, the project worth rupees three billion is based in Bhimdutta Municipality, Dhangadhi Sub Metropolitan City, Godawari Municipality and Shuklaphanta Municipality in Kailali.

"The project aims to manage and equip the town with necessary infrastructures, which helps to realise the goal of making the town a model one in Province 7," said Mayor of Bhimdutta Municipality Surendra Bista.

Development of the town has been divided into different phases, with a 20-year plan in place to make Bhimdutta a model town, and a five-year plan to prioritise infrastructure development.

Management of garbage and drainage, along with construction of a water purification centre would also be prioritised, he said.

Under this project, a survey has been conducted to blacktop the local two-lane 36 kilometres road.

Likewise, a two-lane road will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.7 billion, said engineer for the Municipality, Himalaya Singh Aire.
