‘Rehabilitate flood victims in three months’

Senior CPN-UML leader and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal today demanded that the government rehabilitate flood displaced families within three months.

Expressing grave concern about the death of a large number of people and huge loss of property caused by floods in the Tarai, former PM Nepal said distributing relief packages to the victims at the earliest and relocating them on time was the  state’s responsibility. He said this while talking to journalist at his residence in Gaur after taking stock of the flood victims’ situation in the district today. “The state should take preventive measures to save the victims from dying of hunger,” said Nepal.

He accused the government of being irresponsible in distributing necessary relief materials. He also demanded identification of genuine victims and distribution of relief materials and rehabilitation of victims accordingly. Nepal made a field visit to Jetharahiya of Yamunamai, Bhalohiya, Gangapipara, Matsari of Durgabhagawati and different wards of Gaur Municipality today.

The CPN-UML provided Rs 18,000 to the families of 18 persons each who were killed in the floods in the district.

Nepal urged Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to talk to the Indian government about the loss Nepali people had to incur due to the dams built on the Indian side.
