Relatives of Morang fire victims accuse police of being indifferent

Victim family of the fire incident that claimed four persons in Kanepohari Rural Municipality, Morang, today said police administration had not shown any interest in investigating the incident.
Chandra Bahadur Rai’s house located at Harakpur of Kanepokhari Rural Municipality-3 caught fire at 1:00am on September 21. Rai, 55, his wife Parabata, 55, mother Ganga Maya Rai, 86, and sister Bishnu Maya, 44, were charred to death in the blaze.
Deceased Rai’s elder brother Raj Kumar Wantaba accused the police administration of not investigating the incident. “The incident was premeditated as we have enough evidence. But police are keeping silence on the matter,” Wantaba said.
Deceased Rai’s sister Indira Rai complained that police had spread rumour that the incident happened due to short circuit. She claimed that it was a planned incident and they had evidence to prove that the blaze was not caused by short circuit.
Inspector Rajan Karki at Area Police Office, Pathari, said that police were carrying out an in-depth investigation into the incident. “We are interrogating suspects but we have yet to figure out the real cause of the fire,” said Karki.
Inspector Karki said that police would start technology-based investigation from tomorrow. “We will reach a conclusion within a week,” Karki claimed.
