Shriniwas sent to custody

Shriniwas Acharya, who staged his own shooting, was remanded to 10-day custody for the second time in Morang today.

Morang CDO Ram Prasad Acharya said Shriniwas was remanded to custody for the second time by the DAO to allow police a thorough investigation. Acharya was remanded to the ten-day custody on May 8 for the first time.

Religious leader Sriniwash Acharya was shot in Biratnagar Metropolis on April 8 at around 2:00am. He had come to Biratnagar to attend the Shreemad Bhagvad Mahapuran and had left for Kathmandu after three weeks’ treatment at Neuro Hospital In Biratnagar.

Shriniwas was arrested from Gaushala, Kathmandu, after police came to know that Acharya  had staged his own shooting.

Morang police have filed arms and ammunition case against Acharya. In the meantime, police arrested Madhab Chaudhary and Laxmiraj Adhikari for abetting Acharya. A murder case has been filed against Chaudhary and Adhikari and probe into the incident is under way.

Meanwhile, police have restricted people from seeing Acharya after he was admitted to Koshi Zonal Hospital Biratnagar as his health condition deteriorated after he stopped eating. “Acharya is being treated under police surveillance,” CDO Acharya said.
