Damauli, October 26

Renovation of Manakamana temple in Lakhan Rural Municipality-2, Gorkha, has finally been completed.

Although the temple was damaged in the 2015 earthquakes, its renovation had started from June this year under the supervision of the Department of Archaeology.

“As the previous temple was built in pagoda model, the renovated structure has also been fashioned by replicating the previous design so that the temple doesn’t lose its original look,” said the temple renovation committee chair Narendrababu Shrestha.

“We have finished renovation and are now working to complete the remaining tasks such as construction of support walls and paving the temple premises with stones,” Shrestha said, adding some 18.2 kg of gold was used in the renovated temple. “Gold was used in the roof, doors and finial.

According to Manakamana Temple Area Development Committee, the cost of renovation is estimated to reach Rs 140 million . Of this, 100 million was managed from the temple’s internal sources, the remaining 40 million was provided by the Ministry of Culture. Earlier, the cost was estimated somewhere at Rs 85 million.

Once everything related to renovation is over, the temple will be opened for the public.
