Resham Chaudhary, 11 others slapped life imprisonment

KATHMANDU: The Kailali District Court has sentenced Tikapur carnage conspirator Resham Chaudhary to life imprisonment, today.

The court spelled the verdict for Chaudhary, along with 11 others for instigating the mass during Tharuhat movement in the district which caused the loss of nine lives, including a toddler, in 2015.

As per the verdict, the twelve convicts will remain imprisoned till 2038.

A single bench of Justice Parshuram Bhattarai issued the final verdict on the case following conclusion of debate between defendants and prosecutors.

According to district court’s Shrestedar Indra Kathayat, 15 people including Tharuhat leader Lakshman Chaudhary, Lahuram Chaudhary and two minors have been released.

Almost 42 months ago, on August 24, 2015, eight security personnel including Nepal Police Senior Superintendent (SSP) Lakshman Neupane and a two-year-old-toddler Tekendra Saud were killed as agitated mobs ruthlessly targeted the security personnel deployed to control the agitation.

A case was filed against Resham Chaudhary along with 57 others for murder, conspiring to kill, theft, among other charges, during the agitation. Thirty-one of the accused are still absconding.

The prime accused Resham Chaudhary, House of Representatives member elect from Kanchanpur-1, was recently sworn in as Member of Parliament.
