Respect rights of detainees: NHRC tells government
Kathmandu, January 22:
The National Human Rights Commission today forwarded a letter to the Prime Minister’s office urging the government to address the basic problems of the detainees including political leaders kept under house arrest. The NHRC, in its letter, called on the government to immediately release individuals under critical condition.
The NHRC submitted its recommendation to the government following its recent human rights monitoring of detention centres in Kathmandu.
It called for an immediate release of critically ill Pradip Nepal and Buddha Bir Lama. Likewise, the NHRC statement urged the government to ensure health and legal services to all detained individuals. Similarly, the NHRC recommended the government to reconnect all telephone lines.
