RJP central bodies dissolved, Thapa stays
Kathmandu, May 4:
Chairman of the Rastriya Janshakti Party Surya Bahadur Thapa today dissolved the party’s central executive committee and the central working committee, citing failure to achieve the “expected success” in the constituent assembly election.
RJP did not win a single seat in the first-past-the-post election and obtained just three seats under the proportional representation system. In a statement after party’s central meeting today, Thapa added that the problems stemming from the dissolution of the party’s apex bodies would be addressed soon.
“We accept his decision as the party’s CWC meeting held a few days ago had trusted Thapa to revamp the party,” RJP co-chairman Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani told this daily. Former prime minister Thapa, who lost the election from his home constituency in Dhankuta, admitted that he is responsible for this failure, but chose not to step down from the party post.
