RJP-N asks govt to release MP Chaudhary
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal has demanded that the government release its elected member of parliament Resham Chaudhary.
The RJP-N political committee meeting that concluded here today also decided to demand with the government to withdraw the cases registered against its cadres including Chaudhary in course of the Madhesh movement in various districts. It also called for immediate release of the report of the high-level judicial inquiry commission led by former justice Girish Chandra Lal. The commission was formed to study and report on the incident of excesses that took place during the Madhesh Tharuhat movement.
According to a statement released by the RJP presidium coordinator Mahantha Thakur, the committee also called upon the Prime Minister to fulfil the commitment made during the formation of the present government to amend the constitution.
Furthermore, the committee decided to amend the party's statute extending the term to hold the general convention of the party within two years, instead of the existing provision of holding it in one year. Accordingly, the RJP general convention will be held in April 2019.
The political committee shall meet again on coming July 5.
