RJP-N gears up for protests

Kathmandu, April 10

The Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal has decided to organise protest programmes and corner meetings in all the districts on April 12 demanding constitution amendment and release of its lawmaker Resham Chaudhary.

The party sent a circular to all its chapters in the districts, instructing them to prepare for the protest and to distribute pamphlets in order to make public aware of its demands and reasons for protests, according to RJP-N General Secretary Keshav Jha.

The RJP-N demands that the government make  Girish Chandra Lal Commission’s report public, withdraw  false cases slapped against its cadres and leaders and grant citizenship by descent to the children of citizens by birth.

Member of the RJP-N Presidium Rajendra Mahto said Friday’s protest would be a symbolic one to pressure the government to meet the party’s demands.

“If the government does not fulfil our demands, the party will prepare for a nation-wide protest in collaboration with forces that have championed the rights, identity and empowerment of the marginalised community,” he warned.

“Madhesis, Tharus, Muslims, Dalits and indigenous nationalities need to join hands to claim their rights,” he said.
