RJP-N to take part in third phase of local level polls

KATHMANDU: Office bearers of the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal have decided to take part in the third phase of local level polls slated for September 18.

Member of the RJP-N presidium Rajendra Mahato said a meeting of the party took a decision to this effect on Wednesday. He said the party also decided to take its agenda that was not passed by the Parliament to voters.

The RJP-N will organise a press conference on Thursday to make public its decisions. The party will also decide on its election symbol and the process of selecting its candidates for local polls in Province 2. The RJP-N had demanded umbrella as its election symbol but the Election Commission told the party that it could not grant umbrella as election symbol for technical and legal reasons.

The EC told the RJP-N to choose one of the election symbols of the six parties — the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, the Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party, Nepal, the Sadbhawana Party, the National Madhes Socialist Party, the Nepal Sadbhawana Party and the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Nepal — which had merged to create the RJP-N.
