As many as 43 persons lost their lives and 60 were injured in various road accidents in Tanahun in the past 10 months.
The deceased include 30 men, 11 women and two minors. Likewise, 41 men, 13 women and six minors were critically injured in the accidents happened up until recently from the start of this fiscal on the Prithvi Highway and other inner roads in the district.
According to District Traffic Police in-charge Sub-inspector Gokarna Nepal, other 40 persons were also injured in the accidents.
The deaths and injuries were recorded in 88 acci-dents that happened in the district over the past 10-month period.
Again, most of the vehicles involved in the accidents are reckoned to have been motorbikes (41), followed by cars-jeeps and buses.
Meanwhile, during the same period in the last fiscal, the district had seen 48 deaths, while 76 persons had been rendered critically injured and 51 others normally injured in some 90 accidents.
Police have identified overspeeding, narrow roads and negligence on the part of drivers as responsible for the accidents.
According to SI Nepal, his office is carrying out various traffic awareness programmes to minimise accidents.
"Besides, we have also been strictly monitoring traffic and are punishing anyone found to be violating traffic rules," he said.
