Road accidents on the rise

As many as 560 persons lost their lives in road accidents in the past nine months in 16 districts of the central region this fiscal.

According to Central Region Traffic Police Office, Pathaliya, as many as 919 road accidents took place within the period. As many as 600 persons sustained injuries and 800 were maimed in the accidents. Police said more than 1,304 four-wheelers and 511 two-wheelers were involved in the accidents. In March, 126 vehicles had met with accidents.

Of the 16 districts, as many as 139 accidents took place along Mahendra Highway in Dhading and 85 in Chitwan. As per Central Region Traffic Police Office, Pathaliya, as many as 188 persons from two districts died due to road mishaps. Traffic police said speeding, rough roads, old vehicles, drivers’ negligence, stray animals, among others, were chief reasons for the road accidents.
