Road repair begins in Nawalparasi

Nawalparasi, August 16

Road Division Office, Butwal, started repairing the road section that collapsed due to landslide in Daunne, Nawalparasi, along the Mahendra Highway today.

Nawalparasi DAO issued a notice to halt one-way traffic for the road repair today as even one-way traffic was becoming very hard. After the landslip caused the road to cave-in, two-way traffic had been obstructed for the past five days.

The DAO said the work to repair the road was under way in collaboration with Road Division Office, the Nepali Army and a local construction company. A 90-metre road section near S Mode in Daunne had caved-in due to landslide.

Efforts were made to operate vehicular movement through diversion. But the diversion too was swept away by the landslip, which brought vehicular movement to a complete halt.

RDO, Butwal, said work to repair the road by making a gabion was on. Local contractor Santosh Subedi said though the target for completing the work was 10:00pm tonight, that seemed almost impossible.
