Our role is crucial for forging political consensus: Gachhadar

Kathmandu, July 31

Chairman of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic Bijay Kumar Gachhadar today said that his party’s role is crucial for bringing together the major forces of the country to resolve major issues of development and the constitution.

Addressing a programme organised to mark the seventh anniversary of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic, Gachhadar said that he believed the eight-province model would be the right solution as far as federalism was concerned.

Gachhadar said that if the United Democratic Madhesi Front was in favour of two provinces in Madhes, then tripartite agreement to be signed, should clearly mention it.

Gachhadar said that his party would join the government and try to help address the demands raised by the agitating forces.

Gachhadar said he told Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign after a no-trust motion was moved in the Parliament and the prime minister’s resignation had paved the way for formation of a new government.

“Had the prime minister taken a stance citing lack of constitutional provision for formation of a new government, it could have complicated the said process,” Gachhadar added.

Gachhadar said major forces of the country still needed to be united to address issues relating to reconstruction, implementation of the constitution and demands of Madhesis, Tharus and Janajatis.

He said CPN-UML should also be taken on board or else the constitution could not be amended to address the issues of Mahdesis, Tharus and Janajatis.
